Update: Wilmington Police searching for driver in fatal hit and run

WILMINGTON (WWAY) — One person is dead and another injured after a hit and run accident Sunday.
It happened around 6:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of Carolina Beach Road and Marion Drive. Wilmington Police previously said they were called to the area and found two men suffering from stab wounds following an altercation. Upon arrival, officers located knives on the ground. They also determined that the two men had been hit by a car.
UPDATE (8:45 p.m.): One man died on scene: Guy Wescott, 54. The other person was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
On Monday, a WPD spokesperson said they are now investigating whether either person was stabbed.
“Progress in the investigation and additional evidence indicates a stabbing may not have occurred, as previously reported. At this time, WPD investigators are working to determine all of the specific details surrounding this incident. The cause of death is currently under investigation and is pending an autopsy,” WPD said in a press release.
Police are now searching for a dark SUV with front end damage that hit the two men. Anyone with information is asked to call WPD.
