UPDATE: Woman killed in shooting in mall parking lot identified

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department says the woman who was shot at Independence Mall has died.

According to New Hanover County Dispatch, the call came in around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. It happened near Ruby Tuesday’s on Oleander Drive.

Cathryn Lindsay, a spokeswoman with Wilmington Police, says officials are still investigating. Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

Lindsay said Catherine Ruth Ballard, 24, of Wilmington was shot and taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Lindsay said Ballard passed away yesterday.
