Updated proposal for new Waterfront Park to be presented to Wilmington City Council in the fall
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More than a year after purchasing some land along the riverfront, the City of Wilmington still hasn’t started any visible work on a proposed park that was meant to go there.
The city purchased the more than one-and-a-half-acre parcel of land for $1.2 million.
A portion of the property was used as the home dock for the Coast Guard cutter Diligence before it left Wilmington.
A spokesperson for the city said the land will be known as Waterfront Park and a design for the park and funding for the project was approved several years ago.
An updated proposal will be presented to the city council this fall.
If the council approves it, construction should begin shortly thereafter.
