Marshals arrest suspect after Castle Hayne search
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The suspect has been caught after a search that caused two schools in the Castle Hayne area to shelter in place for a brief time.
A spokesman with the US Marshals Service said they were attempting to arrest Steven Stepps on probation violation drug charges out of Pender County. The warrant was from June 2015. Investigators attempted to serve Stepps with the warrant after 11:15 a.m. when they said Stepps ran off. He was taken into custody just after 1:00 p.m.
According to a tweet from New Hanover County Schools, Castle Hayne Elementary and Holly Shelter Middle were sheltered in place around noon while marshals with the US Marshals Service looked for the suspect. The schools were back to normal about an hour after the initial call to shelter in place.
