VA benefits event being held for veterans in New Hanover
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The American Legion Department of North Carolina is partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs to host a three-day event to connect veterans with a VA representative.
The event held at the National Guard Armory on Infantry Road lets veterans speak one-one-one with a Veterans Affairs representative.
Scheduling appointments with the VA can often be a lengthy process, and this gives veterans a chance to get seen faster.
North Carolina is one of only 12 states to offer similar programs.
Tanya Santos with the Department of Veterans Affairs says the program makes services accessible to more veterans.
“This is a way for us to come out and meet the veterans where they are and come to their hometowns and say ‘Hey, we’re going to bring the processors to you. We’re going to sit down, give you what you need in a way that’s most convenient to the veterans,’” Santos said.
For interested veterans, the event will continue for the next two days.
You can stop by the National Guard Armory between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
