Vacationers in Southport stuck in flood waters

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) –  Turn around, don’t drown.  That’s what some tourists attempted to do while visiting Southport, but things didn’t go quite as planned.

Stephanie Boyette and her husband are from High Point.  They came down to our area for Labor Day weekend, when this happened.

Stephanie and her husband became stuck in the parking lot at Waterfront Park in Southport.

The couple say they didn’t see the curb because of flood waters.

“We were just trying to do a u-turn right here in the parking lot and the rain was falling, we didn’t really see a curb there, and just kind of went over it and got stuck,” Stephanie said.

Fortunately, they had some help and managed to get free.

Southport ended up putting barriers up in that area.
