Vendors say Trump merchandise starts the conversation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As hundreds swarm Trask Coliseum waiting to hear presidential nominee Donald Trump speak this afternoon, vendors from across the country walk through the crowd selling hats, t-shirts, buttons and more.

“We’re out here as entrepreneurs supporting the Trump “Make America Great Again” campaign, said one vendor, Shawn Fette.

Fette said so far, things have been very calm and respectful at the event held on UNCW’s campus.

“I’ve seen supporters from all areas, not just the republican party but the democratic party… It’s nice to see the diversity,” said Derek Molenhour.

The pair said for them, wearing merchandise with Trump on it starts a conversation with people about the race for the White House and the issues facing our nation.

“You know if you see somebody walking down the street with some Trump/Pence merchandise or hats or whatever the case may be, that definitely raises awareness,” said Molenhour. “Whether or not it’s good or bad, if it’s somebody who’s not for Trump, they can speak about it.”
