Venezuelan living in Wilmington responds to Trump’s travel ban

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — President Donald Trump’s travel ban to the US from a dozen countries is now in effect, after last week’s anti-semitic attack in Colorado by an Egyptian man who overstayed his visa.

One of the countries included in that travel ban is Venezuela.

The order blocks foreign nationals from entering the US as immigrants and suspends certain non-immigrant visas.

Geraldo Andrade is a Venezuelan American living in Wilmington for more than 20 years.

But he said he understands the motivation behind the policy.

“When the Venezuelan government aligns with these other countries that are hostile to the US, then they help in any way they can to harm the US in any way the other people want,” Andrade said.

The ban does not apply to permanent residents of the US or travelers with existing visas, but legal challenges are expected to be filed.
