Veterinary Center to relocate, add Wilmington’s first pet MRI
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center plans to move into a larger facility and install Wilmington’s first MRI for pets.
The hospital, currently located on Greenville Avenue, operates out of a 16,000-square-foot space with three operating rooms. The new facility on New Centre Drive will nearly double that size and include six operating rooms.
The hospital treats about 26,000 patients annually. Until now, pets needing an MRI have had to travel to Raleigh for imaging.
“It’s going to bring a new level of healthcare for pets in Wilmington,” said Hospital Director Gary Walker. “Because of the volume that we see currently, we’re adding on two more ER doctors because of the volume we are currently seeing with the growth in Wilmington. We are just trying to do what we can to support the community and the pets that they love.”
Walker said the facility will open in September. A walk-through will be scheduled for patients to ensure pet owners know where to go in case of an emergency.
