VFW Post 12196 holds Memorial Day ceremony at Belville Riverwalk
BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Leland VFW Post 12196 and the town of Belville hosted a Memorial Day ceremony Monday afternoon at the Belville Riverwalk.
The event began at 4 pm in front of the Riverwalk Veterans Memorial.
Dozens of people came out for the ceremony, placing roses on the memorial to recognize loved ones who have served our country.
Post Commander Gerald Decker said it’s special seeing so many people take part in the ceremony.
“It’s exciting to me to see the family members come out and the town of Belville come out to help us remember our brothers and sisters who are no longer with us,” Decker said. “It lets you know that America hasn’t forgotten and the reason we do this every year so that they don’t forget.”
A wreath was also placed in front of the memorial, which overlooks the Brunswick River.
If you’d like to see the memorial this week, the park is open daily from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm.
