Vice Presidental Canidate Tim Walz wraps up NC tour in Wilmington
"From his perspective, what does he care about Social Security? Sit down at Mar-a-Lago and don't do crap?"
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz visited Wilmington for a campaign stop on Thursday.
Walz arrived at Wilmington International Airport at around 5:30 pm. His visit to the port city wraps up a three city stop in North Carolina Thursday, including Greenville and Durham.
On the way to his rally at Greenfield Amphitheater, Walz made a stop at Winnie’s Tavern in Wilmington. There he spoke with National Security Leaders for America about Trump’s recent remarks that he would use the military against his political enemies.

“The idea that you would be asked to turn against American citizens simply because they disagree, it is a disgrace. It is a disgrace,” Walz told the crowd of veterans. “It is the most American thing to disagree politically and come back together around our belief in the constitution.”
Music, dancing, and high energy are just a few things Democratic supporters brought out to the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater Thursday night. Folks from the Port City and afar gathered in Wilmington for Vice Presidential Nominee Tim Walz’s remarks.
“People finally accept that women can be just as good as men. I come from a time when women couldn’t even have a credit card,” said Beth Ekner.
“I’m just hoping that democrats- they need to organize. They need to get out to the polls. Early vote if they can. We have lines around the building here for early voting. Just get involved,” said one attendee.
Rocky Almond, a former basketball coach with Walz, was in the crowd to support his old coachmate.
“That guy has motivated kids his whole life. He’s an incredible educator, and I’m [just] proud to call him my friend. I’ve always said I’ll take friendship over politics anytime,” Almond said.
When the Vice Presidential Nominee took the stage, the crowd cheered in his honor. The nominee started his speech by throwing shots at former President Donald Trump about his character.
“This is the guy who said he would send the United States military after people who don’t support him,” Tim Walz said.
He also claims the former president plans to bankrupt Social Security in the next six years.
“From his perspective, what does he care about Social Security? Sit down at Mar-a-Lago and don’t do crap? Don’t pay taxes yourself? He doesn’t care if a Social Security check arrives,” Walz said.
During his closing remarks, he encouraged those who haven’t voted yet to hit the ballots, screaming, “When we vote, we win!”
After Walz finished his speech, singer-songwriter James Taylor closed the night with a few tunes for attendees.
