Vigil held on Wilmington riverfront for victims in Charlottesville rally
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As tensions are still high in Charlottesville, Virginia a day after clashes between white supremacists and counter protesters turned deadly, more than one hundred people gathered in Wilmington Sunday night to show their support for the victims.
Heather Heyer died when a car rammed into a group of people who were protesting white supremacists who had gathered in the city for a rally.
Sunday night, dozens of people gathered at the riverfront park in Wilmington to stand in silence to honor those who marched in protest. The group stood in silence with candles and flowers even through heavy rain Sunday night.
The car’s driver, James Alex Fields Jr. was charged with second-degree murder and other counts.
