Vigil on Oak Island held for father, son who died in fire
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — It’s been an emotional day in Oak Island after a father and son died in a house fire.
A vigil was held there tonight remembering those victims and to help the survivors who have lost so much.
Disaster struck for the Mylod family after their home of more than seventeen years caught fire.
“They’ve lost everything, they have nothing right now,” family friend Alechia Geddings said.
Two of the five family members who were inside the home died in the fire.
The father 53-year-old Edward Michael Mylod and one of the sons, 16-year-old Casey Mylod.
“as an adult you expect to loose your parent, but you never expect to bury your 16 year old sibling,” Geddings said.
the community came together friday night to remember the two victims and also support the family members who lost everything.
“We are all a very close knit tight community here and just the outpouring of love and the generosity that everyone has shown is overwhelming,”Geddings said.
During the vigil a moment of silence was held followed by a closing prayer.
The family was well known in the community and many came out to support them.
“These are our own they have been a fixture of the community for 17 years at minimum and they have all be involved with the community and it’s our way to lift them up,” organizer of the vigil Liz Grimm said.
