Voices for Ceasefire: Wilmington rally shows support to Palestine and people affected by Israel-Hamas war

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the conflict continues between Israel and Hamas continues, people gathered in Wilmington to protest the violence.

More than 200 people gathered outside Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington calling for a ceasefire and to show support for those in Palestine affected by the war.

After several speakers spoke, an interfaith prayer was held, before a large contingent of people marched towards Market Street and then back to the hall.

Musa Agil is a spokesman for the Arab-American community in Wilmington. He said having a ceasefire would allow people to grieve and take care of those who have been killed.

Sll we’re asking for is an immediate ceasefire so the Palestinians can bury their own dead,” Agil said. “And that is really not too much to ask. And all Palestinians want is the right, their human rights, to be treated like a human.”

Several Proud Boys held a counterprotest for several minutes after the rally began, but police asked them to leave because they refused to remove their masks and identify themselves, according to state law.
