Volunteers give day of service to area veterans in remembrance of 9/11

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Community members stepped up in service this weekend to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Volunteers spent their Saturday working within the community to make repairs to several veteran’s homes in the Wilmington area.

Dylan Elliott worked at the home of a World War II and Korean War veteran. He said he was proud to help out someone who has fought for our freedom.

“I can’t only imagine what he gave during those wars, so this is the least we can do because he deserves this,” Elliott said.

The Cape Fear Volunteer Center had more than 40 people working on various projects including landscaping, painting, cleaning, other minor home projects.

In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a national day of service.
