Voter education workshop held in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With important elections just around the corner, it’s essential to remember that your vote matters—not just on the national stage but locally as well.
On Saturday, the National Black Leadership Caucus of the Southeastern Region hosted a voter education workshop titled “Unleash the Power of Your Vote.”
The event took place at ILA Hall in Wilmington and aimed to empower community members with the knowledge needed to make their voices heard in the upcoming elections.
At the workshop, attendees were greeted with sample ballots at the check-in table and participated in a presentation designed to ensure their votes count.
The session provided a platform for participants to ask questions about the elections and understand how local leadership can make a significant impact.
Sonya Patrick, Chair of the Southeastern Region of the National Black Leadership Caucus, emphasized the importance of voter engagement.
“Unleash the voting power! We have the power to make a difference, and we need to use it. Public officials make decisions that impact our lives, and the work begins right after the election. That’s why it’s important to educate ourselves and stay involved,” Patrick said.
In addition to voter education, the workshop offered insights into how political decisions affect daily life, the process of creating bills, and guidelines for non-profits, Divine 9 organizations, churches, and faith communities.
The event highlighted the role of civic involvement in shaping policies that directly impact the community.
