VP nominee Mike Pence tours port, holds rally in Leland

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear is back in the political spotlight.

Republican vice-presidential nominee, Mike Pence, held a rally in Brunswick County today at Manufacturing Methods.

The venue was not quite as big as Donald Trump’s packed Trask Coliseum, but the enthusiasm was just as strong for the hundreds of eager Mike Pence supporters.

“I’m very anxious to see what happens here,” Darrell Vickers said.

You might recognize Darrell Vickers of Oak Island. He made global headlines for his reaction at Donald Trump’s rally. He said he does not plan on making any headlines this time, but he is glad to see another Trump campaign in southeastern North Carolina.

“I just hope people will pay attention to the policies that will bring jobs back not just the political rhetoric, but the policies,” Vickers said.

Jobs were a big topic for Pence.

“I know the faith and the courage and the determination that it takes to build a business from the ground up,” Pence said.

Pence said he and Trump want to see more people like the owners who started Manufacturing Methods in Leland.

“Donald Trump is such a man and as president he is going to fight for more great american success stories like Pete’s,” Pence said.

Pence also did not hesitate to address Donald Trump’s ability to speak his mind.

“He just says it straight from his heart, straight from his mind,” Pence said. “He doesn’t go tip toeing around all those rules and political correctness that the media and the political asylum puts in the way.”

These were all topics the folks in the crowd were happy to hear.

“They are bringing back our country to where it should be,” one supporter said.

“I think he communicates very well with what he had to say and I think the crowd responded quite well,” another supporter said.

Pence had to leave the rally quickly, because of a tornado in Indiana. Pence is the governor of Indiana.
