Wake County man charged with 2nd degree murder in Oak Island shooting makes first court appearance

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — A man charged with murder in Oak Island made his first appearance in court Thursday afternoon.

Police claim 40-year-old Brian Grant shot 61-year-old Randy Stewart just after 6 pm Wednesday outside Grant’s vacation home in the 300 block of NE 49th Street.

Police say Stewart owned a local locksmith business and was responding to a service call when he was shot.

Grant is charged with one count of 2nd-degree murder.

The Wake County native hired an attorney from Wilmington, who claimed it’s a case of self-defense.

Grant allegedly told police that Stewart was threatening him with a knife to his neck.

A judge denied Grant bond.
