WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina chapter held their annual walk to end Alzheimer’s event Saturday.

More than 900 people participated in the walk at UNCW honoring those impacted by the disease.

Participants carried flowers with colors representing their personal connections to Alzheimer’s.

Just after lunchtime on Saturday $194,000 was raised so far. The money raised at the walk helps fund research, drives risk reduction and early detection. It also helps provide quality care and support for those impacts by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The organization is accepting donations through the end of the year in hopes to reach their event goal of $250,000.
