Warming Shelter ILM location sees over 125 people seek warmth

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) – Warming Shelter ILM filled up overnight with those looking for a warm place to sleep.

Two emergency shelters opened on Sunday at 5 p.m. and will remain open until 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The first location is at 920 North 6th Street for single women and families. The second location is at 402 Grace Street for men and couples.

This is the first year Warming Shelter ILM has opened two locations. The shelter says they had around 125 people seeking warmth overnight at the location on Grace Street.

Reverend Meg McBride, director for the warming shelter said they are in need of financial donations to help keep up with costs for both shelters this year.

“Our expenses are going to severely increase this year, right now we are pretty good on supplies, food, soda and snacks.” McBride said. “But we’re really asking people to be generous this year and give financially.”

The shelter provides coats, food, live music and more to those seeking shelter.
