Warming Shelters open across the Cape Fear as temperatures drop

CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — As temperatures are forecasted to be well below the average, warming shelters across the region are open to those experiencing homelessness.

New Hanover County

125 people are welcome. Drugs, alcohol, and weapons are not allowed.

  • Living Hope Day Center
    • Open January 26 through January 28 (Monday-Wednesday)
    • 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • 411 Market Street, entry through side door of First Baptist Church

Offers access to computers, a warm and safe place to rest, meals, hot coffee, and case management support.

Brunswick County

  • Rose House for Women
    • When temperatures fall below 40 degrees
    • Check in at 5 p.m.
    • 545 Hickman Road NW in Calabash
  • Grant’s Harbor for Men
    • When temperatures fall below 40 degrees
    • Check in at 5 p.m.
    • 520 Mulberry St. in Shallotte
  • Bryant’s Orchard for Families
    • When temperatures fall below 40 degrees
    • Check in at 5 p.m.
    • 433 Tarkin Ct NW in Shallotte

These shelters are run by Christina Recovery Centers, Inc. and include a warm place to sleep, hot meals, clean laundry and safe transportation. In order to be accepted into the shelter, you must be sober, independently mobile, no weapons, no drugs, and no Tabacco.

Columbus County

  • Facts of Life Church
    • When temperatures fall below 40 degrees
    • 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. (also open during the day due to low temperatures)
    • 506 North Lee Street in Whiteville
    • Seeking volunteers, call 910-918-4531

Services include a warm place to sleep, hot meals, hygiene kits, water, and snacks.
