New Hanover Co. Emergency Management chief retires
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After years of service in New Hanover County, Warren Lee is officially retiring from office.
Lee joined the county thirteen years ago as the Director of Emergency Management.
He served over 20 years in emergency management in New Hanover, Cumberland and Lee counties.
As he moves forward, he says he will always remember those he worked with.
“I worked with some awesome people here,” Lee said at a New Hanover County Board of Commissioners meeting today. There has been incredible department heads, managers, commissioners and everybody has been so supportive, including the community as a whole. Folks here understand what we do and they take it seriously.”
Lee says that he is looking forward to spending time with his family and jokes he’s excited to now be able to evacuate if emergency management suggests it’s an emergency.
Steven Still will replace Lee. He has served as deputy director since 2012.
