SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — On Wednesday, Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater from the Shallotte Wastewater Treatment Plant near 349 Forest S. Extension.

The plant discharge was discovered around 9 p.m. Staff investigated the site and determined that the plant had experienced an instrument control panel malfunction.

The repair was completed around 10 p.m. on the same day.

Brunswick County says they believe about 15,000 gallons were discharged and reached Woodward Brand, a tributary of the Shallotte River.

No action is required from the public at this time.
