Welcome Home Angel hosting several events to promote mission

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Welcome Home Angel, a local nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children with chronic and physically debilitating illnesses or injuries, is gearing up for two major events aimed at raising awareness and funds for its mission. The organization, which was founded 17 years ago by John Kaiser, specializes in creating customized home makeovers for children in need.

Chelsey Overton, events manager for Welcome Home Angel, recently shared details about these upcoming events.

On October 17, Welcome Home Angel will host its “Heart and Home” celebration at the nCino corporate headquarters at 6 p.m. The event, which is open to the public but requires an RSVP, will serve as an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the organization and its mission. Overton noted that the event is also a chance for local vendors, contractors, and companies to get involved with future home makeovers.

“We do these huge moments of building spaces to the kids’ specified needs,” Overton said, explaining the organization’s process. “We have reveal days where we bring the family back to see the transformation, and it’s truly a special moment.”

In addition, Welcome Home Angel recently partnered with HGTV’s Good Bones for a home makeover, which was featured in an episode that aired in August. The show followed the story of one of the organization’s “angels,” named Madi, with assistance from Good Bones star Karen Lane.

Following the “Heart and Home” event, Welcome Home Angel will hold its annual Casino Night on November 1 at Terraces on Sir Tyler. The fundraiser will feature a variety of casino games, music, food, and an open bar. Tickets for Casino Night are available for purchase on the nonprofit’s website.

“This is going to be our only in-house fundraiser this year,” Overton explained. “We’ve helped over nine kids this year, and we’re hoping to exceed that number in 2025. It’s an event where everyone can come together, have fun, and support a great cause.”

For those unable to attend the events but still looking to support the organization, Welcome Home Angel offers several ways to get involved. Donations can be made through the organization’s website, and individuals can also sign up to become “Angel Ambassadors,” a monthly giving program that comes with exclusive benefits.
