West Columbus senior Trey Benton signs with ECU for baseball
CERRO GORDO, NC (RELEASE) — Trey Benton a 4 year varsity starting pitcher at West Columbus high school made it official today signing a National Letter of Intent to play for the ECU Pirates next season. This proves that more talent still sits in little ole Cerro Gordo and small 1A West Columbus high school. Benton verbally committed to ECU as a rising Junior last year after being scouted in several national showcase tournaments over the last few seasons. Benton as worked diligently over the last few seasons trying to get attention from D1 coaches across the region. This summer and fall while playing with the “Dirtbags” Showcase team Benton held a 0.20 ERA and last month, Benton also caught the attention of several professional team scouts while pitching in the Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in Jupiter florida where benton normally know for his off speed pitches lit up the radar up to 93mph. Heading into his senior season at West Columbus high school possibly will see some of the same professional scouts that visited Cerro Gordo this last season to see Texas Ranger draftee Eric Jenkins.
