WFD conducts live burn training Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Fire Department conducted a live burn training Saturday at a residence on Beasley Road.

14 fire recruits were able to start and extinguished multiple fires throughout the day.

Training Captain Scott Rivenbark says this was the first time a training like this has happened within city limits in 13 years.

“We go into each room, we set up pallet and stuff it full of hay, a little bit of diesel fuel just to get it going and we burn each room individually,” Rivenbark said. “It gives multiple chances for the recruits to put the fire out.”

Rivenbark says the house was going to be torn down any ways so using this as an educational experience is a win-win situation.
