WFD hosts 9/11 ceremony at Firefighter Memorial


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Fire Department will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on the 14th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The ceremony is Friday at 8:30 a.m. at WFD Station 2 at 3403 Park Ave. in front of Empie Park, which is home to the city’s Firefighter Memorial, which features a piece of a beam from the World Trade Center. The even is open to the public.

The featured speaker will be New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon.

The fire department says this will be a brief standing ceremony with only a few chairs available for those who are unable to stand. Attendees are welcome to bring a chair if they would like.
