WFD says sprinkler limited damage from apartment fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington firefighters says a sprinkler helped keep one of two fires they responded to last night from being worse.

Crews responded to an apartment at 505 Cobblestone Drive just before 11:30 p.m. for a fire sprinkler activation. When they got there they did not see any flames or smoke, because the building’s sprinkler system had put out an accidental fire on a stove top. Investigators estimate damage at $5,000.

A couple of hours earlier firefighters responded to 708 Dawson Street, where the back outside of the building was on fire. They quickly put it out. No cause has been determined so far. That fire also caused about $5,000 in damage.
