WHATS HAPPENING (WWAY) — With nice weather in the forecast this weekend, many will be looking for things to do in the Cape Fear.

In Wilmington, the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina and the City of Wilmington are hosting its 11th annual Healthy Kids Day at Empie Park. The free event will give families the opportunities to participate in activities that promote health and wellness. Some events will include a 1 mile run, bouncy houses, sports stations and more. Its happening Saturday at 9:30 am-1pm at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.

In Fort Fisher, racers will run in the greenest race in the Cape Fear, the 2024 Race for The Planet at The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Those who are running also agree to not use single-use plastic and help protect the environment. All race proceeds go to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher’s Greens Teams initiative. WWAY’s Ramel Carpenter and Marion Caldwell will also be participating in the race. It begins on Sunday at 8am at 900 Loggerhead Road – registration is still open!
