What’s with the newest mural in downtown Wilmington?
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – If you’ve been to downtown Wilmington lately you may have seen something painted on the side of a building. It is catching the attention of social media.
A mural is at the corner of 2nd and Princess and says “I believe in Wilmington” with an image of the state flag and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge.
Those who work in the area say it’s been there for a couple of weeks. It’s unclear if the mural will remain, however some say it’s helping bring business to the area.
“It draws people here and it gets people to come back and take pictures with it and check out the businesses that are already here,” said Jonah Recko who works at Bespoke Coffee just across the street from the mural.
They also hope it becomes a visiting spot for tourists.
“Maybe just be a place where people can meet up,” said William Mellon who owns a business in the building that the mural sits on. “It’s a good spot ‘let’s go to the 2nd street mural spot, let’s meet up and have a drink or go check out what’s going on downtown’.”
We reached out to the city of Wilmington for comment and they told us we would hear more from them Tuesday.
