Whiteville man arrested on multiple child abuse charges

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man following an investigation into allegations of child abuse.
The sheriff’s office says that the investigation started after they received information from the Bladen County Department of Social Services about allegations of sexual and physical abuse reported to have occurred in Columbus County.
Daniel Allen Cox, 35, of Whiteville was arrested on January 29 and charged with two counts of felony child abuse, two counts of second-degree forcible sex offense, two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult, two counts of statutory sex offense with a child under 15, two counts of sexual activity by a substitute parent or custodian.
Cox is being held at the Columbus County Detention Center under no bond.
