Whiteville native Mackenzie Gore named to MLB All Star Game for the 1st time
WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — For the first time in his MLB career, Whiteville native MacKenzie Gore has been named to the MLB All-Star Game.
The Washington Nationals ace is enjoying a breakout season as he is 3-8 with a 3.11 ERA (earned run average) and ranks 5th in the majors in strikeouts with 131.
Gore came over to the Nationals in the blockbuster Juan Soto trade, which sent Soto to the San Diego Padres several seasons ago.
The Padres drafted Gore with the 3rd overall pick in the 2017 draft after Gore led Whiteville High School to 3 state titles in 4 years.
During his senior year, Gore went 11-0, with a minuscule 0.19 ERA and struck out 158 hitters in just 74 1/3 innings.
The MLB All-Star Game will be played at Atlanta’s Truist Park on July 15th.
