Whiteville police chief one step closer to certification
WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — More than a year after taking the job, Whiteville’s police chief is one big step closer to being able to carry a gun and make arrests.
Jeffrey Rosier says he graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training this week at Bladen Community College. Rosier, who started as Whiteville’s top cop in March 2014, had to go through BLET under North Carolina law even though he had 30 years experience as a police officer in Maryland.
Rosier has been serving as an administrator chief since he started. That means he cannot carry a gun on duty or make arrests. He says he can carry a gun on his own time as a gun permit holder.
Rosier says now that he’s graduated the training program he has sent his paperwork off to Raleigh for certification. He says it typically takes four to six weeks to get the final approval and be sworn in as a certified officer.
