Whiteville baseball team punches return ticket to 1-A State Finals


CERRO GORDO, NC (WWAY) —  West Columbus got off to an early lead against Whiteville High School on Thursday night in game 2 of the 1-A Eastern Finals, but the Wolfpack players managed to earn a come from behind victory over their rivals from just down the road in Columbus County. Whiteville scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning to beat West Columbus 9-6.

Connor Grainger had a 3-run homer for Whiteville. Hunter Harwood had a 2-run homer.

Whiteville is the defending 1-A state champion in baseball. Whiteville will either face South Stanly or Elkin next week in the 1-A state championship baseball series.
