WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — WHQR Public Media received a $20,478 grant from The Cannon Foundation to replace equipment.

The grant will pay for the replacement of the Audio Vault System which is the computer server and software system that stores all of the station’s audio files and plays them on the news and classical channels.

Station Manager Kevin Crane says, “We are incredibly grateful for The Cannon Foundation’s generous grant. Our automation system is still running on a no longer supported operating system. This grant will allow WHQR to continue operating without interruption into the future.”

The Cannon Foundation was established in 1943 by North Carolina native, Charles A. Cannon, President and CEO of Cannon Mills Company. The Foundation continues his philanthropic legacy by funding capital and equipment projects across the Tar Heel State.
