Will Hoggard fans be loud enough to win Hoggard $25,000 on Friday?


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hoggard High School football fans are great. On Friday they have a chance to help the school win $25,000. Hoggard is one of eight schools nationwide participating in U.S. Cellular’s “Battle of the Stands” competition. The school with the loudest fans will win $25,000.

On Wednesday we caught up with Hoggard head football coach Craig Underwood. He wasn’t aware of the promotion, but he was glad to hear about it. “I think it is a great choice,” Underwood told WWAY. “Hoggard is such a special place and our fanbase is awesome, so I know they’ll be extremely loud to support us.”

WILMINGTON, NC (RELEASE FROM U.S. CELLULAR) — How loud can Hoggard High School fans cheer for their football team? U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM) intends to find out the answer to that question and give the school the opportunity to win $25,000 in the process. Hoggard High School in Wilmington is one of eight schools nationwide who are participating in the company’s “Battle of the Stands” competition, and the school with the loudest fans will win $25,000.

On Friday, Sept. 18, U.S. Cellular is encouraging all fans of Hoggard High School to come to the football game against Clinton High School to cheer the team on to victory. At the game, U.S. Cellular will provide spirit packs to fans to help increase the decibel level, and at a dedicated moment during halftime, the crowd noise will be measured and results will be posted at www.aseasonoftradition.com. Hoggard High School fans will then be able to track their school and see how they rank against the other competing schools. Each week, a different high school will be featured, and their fans will have the chance to prove they are the loudest. At the end of the competition in November, the winning school will be named.

“We want to celebrate the fans of high school sports and the local communities that come together to support the players,” said Jeremy Taylor, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in eastern North Carolina. “At U.S. Cellular, we are a part of our local communities, and we know how passionate fans can be about their local teams. We look forward to seeing the enthusiastic school spirit and hearing how loud everyone can be.”

Fans of the school who are unable to attend the game can visit www.aseasonoftradition.com the day of the game and for a week after the game to find out how they can add on their own “digital crowd noise” to add to the school’s total. Hoggard High School is competing against other high schools in Illinois, Iowa, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Between now and Nov. 13, fans of high schools across the country are also encouraged to upload a video of their school’s game day fan tradition. A winning video will be announced every week until Nov. 13, and the fan who submits the video will win $500, and the school involved will also win $500.
