Will New Hanover be a 3-A school in 2017 for sports? Changes on the horizon

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Can you believe New Hanover might drop down to a 3-A school in the near future? It could happen as soon as August of 2017.

CHAPEL HILL, NC (NCHSAA) — The purpose of this advisory is to let you know that the realignment numbers for the NCHSAA realignment process for 2017-21 have been finalized and posted on the NCHSAA website.  In addition, the lines have been drawn for the classifications using the approved 20/30/30/20 model, and those lines are set. Only the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors could elect to move a school in classification.

The initial draft of conferences will not come until later in December.
