Wilmington archaeology lab finds temporary storage; seeks permanent home

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) – A non-profit archaeology lab in downtown Wilmington is still in search of a permanent home.

The Public Archaeology Corps needs to move out of its donated lab by Feb. 2The owner of the building, located on Front Street, plans to renovate and put in new businesses.

In the mean time, a volunteer with the organization has stepped up to provide a temporary storage space for its thousands of artifacts. Gary Steele, a volunteer with the non-profit, is also the owner of Steele Music Studios on Princess Street.

He offered up a portion of the basement at his business when he heard the group was in urgent need.

“We cleaned up the space and made some room and so now we’re going to store some artifacts here on a temporary basis until we can find something a little more permanent,” Steele said.

The organization said it has reached out to the city and county for assistance in finding a permanent home.
