Wilmington cake decorator finds newfound passion as a content creator

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County cake decorator is sweet and savvy on social media. 

Hans Westermark is the Head Decorator and Assistant Manager at Apple Annie’s Bake Shop on S. Kerr Ave. in Wilmington. 

He’s been at the bakery for more than 30 years, but his presence online has just begun. 

Hans started a TikTok account thinking it would be fun to document all his delicious designs. But viewers ate it up, and he now has close to half a million followers. One of his videos has nearly 45 million views. 

He said he’s made thousands of cakes over the years but he’s most recently proud of his Alice in Wonderland themed cake. 

Hans said discovering social media has helped him to rediscover his passion in the kitchen. 

“It’s given me more ideas, it’s inspired me. I think there was a point where I was just burnt out on the whole cake decorating thing. When this happened, it was just like I started getting more ideas. I was excited that people were interested,” Westermark said.
