Wilmington church builds cardboard city to combat homelessness
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wrightsboro United Methodist Church on N. Kerr avenue is constructing a city of cardboard in the hopes of drawing attention to the homeless community.
According to Randy Kerr, a youth leader with the church, the kids decided this was something they wanted to do to give back to the community. Kerr said about 15 people will be spending 24-hours in the cardboard city. They will also be fasting for that entire time.
The group will be accepting donations of canned foods for their food bank, as well as clothing and monetary donations that can be used to help the homeless population in the Wilmington community.
Kerr said anyone is welcome to drop by and help out or hang out while they are out there. The project started at 8:00 am on Saturday morning and will run until 8:00 am Sunday morning.
