Wilmington City Council approves lighting package for Kenan Fountain, Riverwalk repairs


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)  — The Wilmington City Council decided Tuesday night to use more money to protect the Kenan Fountain.

City Council approved a $46,000 lighting package. The Fountain keeps getting hit by cars, especially at night.  Council has already spent thousands of dollars upgrading the lighting around the fountain.

City Council also voted to spend $700,000 to repair part of the Downtown Riverwalk.

The section next to the historic Brooks Building in on top of a failing platform that’s been closed since Sept.

The City says the platform is owned by the building owners. The plan is to separate the public Riverwalk from the private building.
