Wilmington City Council passes resolution calling for repeal of House Bill 2

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington City Council made a big decision tonight after hundreds showed up at the council meeting in opposition of House Bill 2.

In front of a packed chamber room, council unanimously passed a resolution to support of local government authority and the repeal of HB2.

Morgan Girtman was one of those who packed the council meeting. She says there were a lot of parts of the bill she didn’t not agree with, including the lack of freedom cities were given to set anti-discriminatory laws.

“Obviously the bathroom portion of it.  It’s restrictive to our transgender friends, Girtman said. “It’s also restrictive if you have a single father with a female child, where is he suppose to go?”

One speaker, Sandra Lee, said  HB2 could be a burden on North Carolina schools, which could create a more hostile environment in schools and increase risks for harassment for students.
