Wilmington City Council votes to allow mosque

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington City Council unanimously voted to allow a mosque at 17th and Rankin Streets Tuesday night.

The topic took more than an hour of discussion and comments from the public. The Islam center will be in an existing vacant building there.

There was some opposition from some neighbors who worried the mosque would mean traffic and parking issues. But others said they were happy to have a religious institution nearby.
