Wilmington community taking part in ‘Azalea Festival Downtown Impact Survey’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Downtown Wilmington Incorporated released the Azalea Festival Downtown Impact Survey to collect feedback about the Azalea Festival and how it affects downtown Wilmington.

Business owners and residents have voiced both positive and negative impacts of the North Carolina Azalea Festival.

Wilmington Downtown Inc. hopes the survey will guide efforts to support a balanced downtown environment.

Matthew Pifer owns ‘Rosie Revolution’ — a clothing store downtown that sells vintage clothes and costuming.

He says the Azalea Festival brought more people to his store.

“It didn’t really affect us negatively, there was a lot of a lot of foot-traffic and like I said sales were kind of at a normal level of where they usually are for a weekend. I think a lot of people came in to escape the heat and cool off for a little bit,” Pifer shared.

Pifer took the survey and adds he thinks the survey is a great way to create an open line of communication with the Downtown Wilmington community.
