Wilmington Coup of 1898 Office of City Engagement remembrance events

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Office of Civic Engagement will be holding events in remembrance of the Wilmington Coup of 1898.
On Monday, the 1898 Clergy Unity Luncheon and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held.
The Wreath Laying Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. at 1898 Memorial Park located at 1018 N. 3rd Street. The ceremony will honor the memory of those affected by the 1898 Wilmington Coup and Massacre and serve as a moment of reflection and collective remembrance.
Following the ceremony, the luncheon will be held at Cape Fear Community College’s Union Station – Daniels Hall starting at 11:30 a.m.
Lead pastor of Port City Community Church, Pastor Mike Ashcraft will give a keynote address. St. Luke AME Zion Church Pastor Jermaine Armour will emcee the event.
The luncheon is a ticketed event, and tickets are on sale online for $25.
