Wilmington driver license office can’t issue licenses Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Drivers won’t be able to get a new license tomorrow at a Wilmington DMV location that’s typically open on Saturdays, but they can take their driving tests.

All North Carolina DMV driver license offices that operate on Saturdays will not be able to issue driver licenses tomorrow because of a new information system release by the Social Security Administration.

NCDMV uses an application called the State On-Line Query (SOLQ) that allows authorized state agencies real-time online access to the Social Security Number verification service. NCDMV will be able to provide written and road tests on Saturday. However, NCDMV will make appointments with customers to return to the office for the completion of the license issuance when SOLQ returns on line.

This Social Security Administration system release will not affect online renewals or duplicate issuances.

Among the 13 driver license offices across the state affected are the Wilmington South location at 2390 Carolina Beach Road and the office in Jacksonville.
