Wilmington Fire Department collects close to 1,300 lbs. of food for ‘Nourish N.C.’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s the season for giving, something first responders in the area do every day, and they have found yet another way to serve the community.

Thursday, Wilmington Fire Department loaded up and delivered the non-perishable food items they have been collecting over the past several months.

This holiday food drive benefited ‘Nourish N.C.,’ a food bank in Wilmington.

This food will be used in Nourish N.C.’s market on Market St., and for their backpack program to help feed families in the Cape Fear.

Wilmington Fire Chief, Steve Mason, said it’s nice to see the community work as one on this project.

“This was just another way that we found that we feel like is a great way to serve our community and the citizens that we’re sworn to protect,” Chief Mason said.

Wilmington Fire Department filled two large bins with boxes and cans of food, all together weighing close to 1,300 pounds.
