Wilmington Fire Department hosts Home Escape Plan Challenge

WILIMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Do you have a home escape plan for your family? The Wilmington Fire Department wants you to enter their competition to prove your family’s fire-safety skills.

Submit a photo, video, or PDF of your family’s plan, utilizing the home fire escape plan grid for ideas. The winning family will receive a private fire station tour, a special lunch for your child’s class (or homeschool group) with our firefighters, and even a truck display for their class (or group)

Fire safety preparation is essential to ensure your family’s safety. By creating a home escape plan, you can feel confident in your family’s ability to act when that smoke alarm first sounds. Your entry must include:

• Two ways out of every room.
• How each family member will get out if the smoke alarm sounds or if there is a fire.
• A designated meeting place outside and in front of your home.

Submit entries to our online Google form between September 1 and September 30, 2025. Winners will be announced on October 10, 2025.
