Wilmington Fire Department responded to report of gas leak along 2nd Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several crews from the Wilmington Fire Department responded to a gas leak along 2nd Street around 2:30 pm Wednesday.

Crews were seen working to locate and stop the leak, with police closing off roads from Castle Street all the way to Ann Street.

Buildings and homes nearby were evacuated as well.

After about an hour, the leak was stopped and people were allowed back into their homes.

The exact cause of the leak is not yet known at this time.
