Wilmington Fire Department’s Chief Mason to ride in 12th annual Carolina Brotherhood Ride

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One of Wilmington’s own is participating in a more than 600-mile bike ride charity event.

Chief Steve Mason with Wilmington Fire Department plans to ride in the 12th annual Carolina Brotherhood Ride.

Each year, the bicyclists raise money for families of fallen firefighters, police officers, and other first responders. Over the years, the event has raised tens of thousands of dollars.

This is Chief Mason’s 8th ride. He said he enjoys riding for a cause and the people he’s met along the way.

“You’re out there riding across North and South Carolina through big towns and little towns and, ya know, you’re riding shoulder-to-shoulder with 25 people that are like some of your best friends in the world,” Chief Mason said.

Chief Mason plans to ride in honor of fallen first responders as long as this charity event takes place.
